I'm Katie and this blog is to send updates back home to loved ones in Michigan (and beyond) as well as share prayer requests.

I am currently living a life-long and God-given dream by working as an English teacher at Antioch Christian Academy, a school that is part of an organization called Jungle Kids for Christ (JKC). The goal of this organization is to empower children with education and the gospel to bring light back to their home communities. My role has me working with students from the Ecuadorian jungle, teaching English language and literature as well as SAT prep, preparing them (and their language skills) for universities in either Ecuador or the United States.
Ever since first visiting Ecuador in 2017 and then returning for a semester abroad in 2018, this beautiful country has held a special place in my heart. During my semester abroad in Ecuador, I had the opportunity to visit this ministry for a week. I immediately loved the mission and the vision of the school; one of empowerment and transformation. I knew I wanted to work at a school exactly like that. I wasn't entirely sure about living in the jungle, but God had other plans.

Years later I had the opportunity to talk with a JKC English teacher, who told me about her experience at this school in the jungle. As she talked, God began working in my heart, warming me up to the idea of moving to and living in the jungle. After our conversation, I began researching the school and was reminded of all that I loved about it. I began praying that God would open or close doors in accordance with His will. He began to open doors.
And now, here I am.

I have been teaching here since August 2021 and continue to love what I do. The jungle has its challenges, but it is a place of beauty. Teaching also has its challenges, but I wouldn't want to be doing anything else. The unique pace of life here causes me to pause and reflect more, which is often where my blog posts are 'born.' My hope and prayer is that my posts may offer encouragement to you in your own walk with Christ as well as inspire you to pray specifically for me and the ministry that I love.
